Province follows Sean, a very troubled young man who was the victim of childhood sexual abuse. When he can no longer run from the pain and trauma that haunt him, he decides to start confronting it; starting with his mother.

  • "In 2013, my mother, not yet fully aware of what had transpired when I was a child, asked me if I wanted to visit the priest who sexually abused me on his deathbed. I couldn’t face the pain, the anger, let alone my abuser then. What would I have said or done? That question gave rise to this short film about the haunting, tragic effects of untreated childhood trauma and the agonizing yet pivotal step of opening up the wound to heal it. I held almost as much anger towards my single mom, who was manipulated by this predator hiding behind the cloth. We were both victims but a deep chasm grew within me from when I was a boy unable to process the ordeal or discuss it as an adult. The film offers a glimpse into the beginning of my healing journey. Only by forgiving my younger self for failing to speak up could I start to let go and not be a victim anymore. Healing is a place. To reach it, you must start from within and find your own PROVINCE."
